The last we heard about Google’s highly anticipated Android 14 release was mere speculation, suggesting it might coincide with the announcement of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro on October 4. Today, we have somewhat of a confirmation, albeit unofficial.

It’s important to note that this confirmation is not coming directly from Google, and an official announcement from the tech giant is still pending. However, Canadian carrier Telus has provided a clue by listing the rollout dates for software updates for the devices it offers. Notably, under all Pixel devices starting from the Pixel 4a, “Android U” was mentioned as scheduled for release on October 4.

“Android U” is the internal codename for Android 14, often humorously referred to as Android Upside Down Cake. It’s worth mentioning that Telus initially listed this update date for all the aforementioned Pixel devices, but that information has since been removed.

Speculation suggests that Google may have noticed this information being circulated online and could have requested Telus to remove it, which the carrier promptly did. However, it’s important to acknowledge that this is still speculative, and there remains a slim possibility that the information itself was inaccurate.

The good news is that we won’t have to wait long for confirmation. In less than 48 hours, we should know whether Android 14 is indeed set for release on October 4. If that turns out to be the case, we can expect Google to make an official announcement during its event. Stay tuned for updates, and we’ll keep you informed of any developments.
