Apple has acknowledged a growing concern reported by many users regarding the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro’s tendency to become excessively hot. The company has attributed this issue to several factors, including background activity, a bug in iOS 17, and certain third-party applications. According to Forbes, Apple has assured users that both a software update and remedies from app developers are in the works.

A spokesperson from Apple explained, “We have identified a few conditions which can cause the iPhone to run warmer than expected. The device may feel warmer during the first few days after setup or restoration due to increased background activity. Additionally, we have detected a bug in iOS 17 affecting some users, which will be resolved in an upcoming software update. Another issue involves recent updates to third-party apps, which are overloading the system. We are actively collaborating with these app developers to implement fixes that will soon be rolled out.”

Among the applications mentioned in relation to this issue are Uber, Instagram, and Asphalt 9. Meta has already released a solution for Instagram, so it is advisable to ensure you have the latest version installed. It’s important to note that the overheating problem may be specific to certain usage scenarios and combinations of apps, as not all users have reported experiencing it.

Apple has emphasized that the overheating is not caused by the titanium frame, as the company informed MacRumors that this design actually offers better heat dissipation compared to previous models with stainless steel frames. Additionally, Apple clarified that the issue is unrelated to its A17 Pro chip, and the forthcoming fix will not compromise device performance in any way. Furthermore, the overheating is not associated with high-power chargers, as the iPhone 15 complies fully with USB-C PD standards and incorporates built-in safeguards to prevent damage from overheating. Therefore, if you have encountered this problem, rest assured that a solution should be available shortly.
