Mediatek is on the brink of unveiling its much-anticipated Dimensity 9300 chipset. Earlier reports from Digital Chat Station hinted at an intriguing configuration, featuring four Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 units, without the presence of any low-power A520 cores.
Today, the same leakster has furnished additional details about the CPU clock speeds, asserting that the Dimensity 9300 is expected to outpace the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 by a notable 10%.
Mediatek appears to be adopting a 1+3+4 architecture for the Dimensity 9300, comprising one core clocked at 3.25 GHz Cortex-X4, three cores at 2.85 GHz Cortex-X4, and four cores at 2.0 GHz Cortex-A720. Additionally, the chipset is anticipated to feature an Immortalis-G720 GPU. This architecture deviates from Snapdragon’s 1+5+2 setup, which consists of one core clocked at 3.19 GHz Cortex-X4, five cores at 2.96 GHz Cortex-A720, and two cores at 2.27 GHz Cortex-A520.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s unconventional core combination sets it apart, and Mediatek’s omission of low-power cores is a bold departure from the norm. The real-world performance implications and the ability of device manufacturers to manage any potential heating issues while harnessing the full potential of the chip remain intriguing questions.
