Earlier this week, Samsung rolled out the October 2023 security patch for the Galaxy S21 FE in Europe. Now, the company is releasing the same update for both carrier-unlocked and carrier-locked versions of the smartphone in the United States, identified by model numbers SM-G990U and SM-G990U1.
For the carrier-unlocked version of the Galaxy S21 FE, the new firmware version is G990USQS9EWI2, while the carrier-locked variant is receiving G990U1UES9EWJ1. As previously mentioned, this update incorporates the October 2023 security patch, which addresses 12 security issues. Additionally, the update may include bug fixes and performance enhancements. It is currently being distributed by major network carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Other variations of the phone are expected to receive the update in the near future.
Ideally, your Galaxy S21 FE should automatically notify you of the latest software update. However, if you have not received a notification, you can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings » Software updates and selecting the “Download and install” option. If you cannot find the update even after a manual check, you have the option to download the new firmware from our database and install it using Odin.
Galaxy S21 FE to Receive Android 14 (One UI 6.0) Update Soon
Samsung introduced the Galaxy S21 FE 5G in January 2022 with Android 12 (One UI 4.0). In December of the same year, the company provided the Android 13 (One UI 5.0) update for the device. Nevertheless, the phone is yet to receive the Android 14 (One UI 6.0) update. Samsung has committed to delivering four Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates for this device. This means that the Galaxy S21 FE will also be eligible for Android 15 and Android 16 updates in the future.
