Huawei to Launch New Kirin 830 Chipset with the Nova 12 Series

Huawei had announced last year that there would be no Kirin chipsets in 2023, confidently dismissing reports of their existence as “false news.” However, fast forward nine months, the company surprised everyone by introducing the Mate 60 series featuring the Kirin 9000S platform. Now, there are reports of yet another System on a Chip (SoC) in the works – the Kirin 8 series.

The upcoming chip is expected to be named Kirin 830, and according to a reliable source, it is set to debut with the nova 12 series “towards the end of the year.”

While we’ve heard whispers about this particular chipset before, it’s only now that we have a tentative release timeframe. Leak posters featuring the nova 12 and nova 12 Pro have surfaced, hinting that the Kirin 830 chip may be exclusive to the standard smartphone variant. The phone is anticipated to sport a triple-camera setup on the back, an impressive 60 MP front-facing selfie camera, and support for rapid 88W charging.

Rumors surrounding the Kirin 830’s performance suggest it will be on par with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G or Snapdragon 870. However, it’s important to note that these details remain speculative at this stage. A more pressing concern is who will manufacture the chipset, as 5G technologies and patents are still under the control of U.S. companies that are prohibited from conducting business with Huawei or its subsidiary chipset manufacturer, HiSilicon.
