With the launch of Android 13, Google unveiled dynamic theming for app icons, a feature that allows app developers to customize their icons dynamically. Over a year since this feature was introduced, app developers are now beginning to incorporate it into their applications. Instagram has recently joined the trend by offering dynamic-themed app icons for compatible Android devices.
Instagram Adopts Dynamic Themed App Icon
The latest version of the Instagram app for Android now supports dynamic-themed app icons. This means that if you are using Android 13 or a newer version on your Galaxy smartphone, you can enjoy a Material You-themed icon for the Instagram app. This icon features a dual-tone design, with the primary color derived from your selected home screen wallpaper, utilizing the Monet theming engine.
To enable Material You-themed app icons on your Galaxy smartphone or tablet, follow these steps: long-press on your phone’s home screen, select “Wallpaper and Style,” then tap “Color Palette.” Enable the Color Palette feature and activate “Apply Palette to App Icons.”
Several other social media apps have recently introduced support for Material You-themed app icons, including Mastodon, LinkedIn, Reddit, Telegram, Threads, and WhatsApp. Most apps from Google and Samsung have also adopted this customization feature. Expect more apps to incorporate this theming feature in the near future.
