Gamers will soon have access to the highly anticipated Intel Core Ultra Meteor Lake laptops, as they are now listed on various online stores throughout the United States. Meteor Lake serves as the codename for Intel’s first-generation Core Ultra mobile CPUs, scheduled for launch on December 14 during the “AI Everywhere” event. Initially intended to mark the debut of the 14th generation chips, Intel decided to introduce them as Raptor Lake CPUs instead.

The Core Ultra Meteor Lake CPUs were initially disclosed by Intel in a Roadmaps and Milestones document released in February 2022, hinting at significant improvements to the CPU, GPU, and other accelerators.

The enhancements include AI integration and a multi-chip GPU architecture delivering performance comparable to discrete graphics. Additionally, an industry insider leaked the Meteor Lake CPU names on social media, providing enthusiasts with more details about the Core Ultra lineup. Intel has also revamped its CPU naming convention by omitting the letter ‘i’ from tiering and introducing new processor numbering.

Originally conceived as mobile-only processors, Intel Meteor Lake CPUs for desktops were announced later. Amidst rumors circulating on social media about the cancellation of desktop CPU production due to the absence of updates at the Innovations 2023 event, Intel quelled speculation by confirming the release of Meteor Lake-S Desktop CPUs in 2024. Now, as the Intel Core Ultra processors are set for release, various online retailers are listing the inaugural Meteor Lake laptops, available from December 18.

The initial laptop series featuring Meteor Lake processors is the MSI Prestige AI EVO, offered in 13″ and 16″ variants equipped with Core Ultra 5 125H and Core Ultra 7 155H CPUs. MSI is anticipated to unveil more laptops with Meteor Lake CPUs, including the Prestige AI Studio, Stealth AI Studio, Stealth AI, and CreatorPro AI Studio series. These processors boast on-package LPDDR5X memory, positioning them as competitors to Apple’s M1 and M2 chips with enhanced performance.

As the launch of Intel Core Ultra Meteor Lake CPUs approaches, a wave of new laptops is expected to flood the market, providing gamers with an elevated gaming experience. This new processor series is poised to intensify the competition between Intel and AMD, especially as AMD prepares to release the Ryzen 8000 CPUs next year.
