Motorola has recently introduced its newest iterations of affordable 5G smartphones for 2024 – the Moto G Power 5G and Moto G. These upgraded models are set to launch in the US and Canada towards the end of this month or early next month.
Moto G Power 5G (2024)
Expanding on its predecessor, the Motorola Moto G Power 5G (2024) boasts a larger 6.7” display, still utilizing IPS LCD technology with FHD+ resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Notably, the device retains stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Significant improvements are evident in the camera department, with the main 50MP shooter now featuring Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), complemented by an 8MP ultra-wide lens that doubles as a macro camera. Additionally, a 16MP front-facing camera enhances selfie capabilities.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Dimensity 7020 chipset, accompanied by 8GB of RAM (expandable with up to 8GB of virtual RAM) and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The battery receives a notable upgrade, maintaining a 5,000mAh capacity while offering doubled wired charging speeds at 30W and introducing 15W wireless charging – a first for the Moto G series.
The Moto G Power 5G will be accessible through various US carriers starting March 22, including T-Mobile, Metro, AT&T, US Cellular, Verizon, Straight Talk, Total, Walmart Family Mobile, and Visible. Canadian availability is slated for April 12.
For those seeking unlocked units, Motorola.com, Amazon US, and Best Buy US will offer them starting March 29 at a price of $300, with carrier-specific pricing and deals also available.
It’s worth noting that both new models feature NFC connectivity, absent in their 2023 counterparts, and launch with Android 14 out of the box. While lacking proper water resistance, they maintain Moto’s water-repellent design, with some units featuring vegan leather backing.
Moto G (2024)
The Moto G (2024) marks Motorola’s debut with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset, a significant upgrade from the Snapdragon 480+ utilized in the 2023 model. Despite retaining 4GB of RAM (expandable with 4GB of virtual RAM) and 128GB of storage, this budget-friendly 5G model promises enhanced performance.
The device sports a similar 6.6” LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and HD+ resolution. Camera specifications remain largely unchanged, featuring a 50MP main sensor alongside a dedicated macro camera, with an 8MP selfie camera on the front.
Battery capacity remains consistent at 5,000mAh, with wired charging capped at 18W.
US carriers will initially offer the Moto G (2024), with T-Mobile and Metro launching on March 21, followed by other carriers and MVNOs such as Cricket, AT&T, Boost Infinite, Boost Mobile, Verizon, and more. Unlocked units will be available from Motorola.com, Amazon, and Best Buy starting May 2 at $200, with a May 2 release in Canada as well.
