According to a recent report from Taiwan’s ET News, Apple is set to incorporate OLED display technology into nine additional devices by the year 2027.

After the anticipated introduction of OLED displays on both models of the iPad Pro next year, Apple is reportedly extending this technology to the iPad mini and iPad Air in 2026. The ‌iPad Air‌ will maintain its 10.9-inch display, while the ‌iPad mini‌ is expected to see an increase from an 8.3- to 8.7-inch screen. In 2027, Apple is planning to introduce OLED display technology to the rumored 12.9-inch iPad Air model, which is initially expected to debut with an LCD display early next year.

For the ‌iPad Pro‌, Apple is said to be adopting a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED panel, while the ‌iPad mini‌ and ‌iPad Air‌ will feature a single-stack low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) panel. This indicates that the exclusive ProMotion feature, supporting refresh rates up to 120Hz, will remain specific to the high-end models.

In 2027, Apple is planning to enhance the ‌iPad Pro‌’s OLED panels by introducing a next-generation panel with improved light efficiency through Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE). This technology is expected to reduce power consumption by approximately 20%. The adoption of a color filter could also pave the way for Apple to introduce under-display camera technology on the iPad for the first time.

The report suggests that Apple will bring OLED to the 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2025, followed by the 14-inch model in 2026. Furthermore, the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air models are set to transition from LCD to OLED in 2026.

OLED technology offers several advantages, including increased brightness, a higher contrast ratio, greater color accuracy, and lower power consumption compared to existing LCD panel models. Apple already utilizes OLED displays for the iPhone and Apple Watch models, with the exception of the iPhone SE. Additionally, OLED panels are noted for being thinner and lighter than LCDs, providing specific benefits to the ‌iPad‌ lineup.
