Yearly innovation in the realm of smartphones has never been an easy feat. Redesigning the internals and complex hinge mechanisms of a modern foldable device is arguably even more challenging. Recently, rumors have emerged regarding Samsung’s upcoming Z Fold6 phone.

According to industry insider ICE UNIVERSE, we may need to adjust our expectations concerning the main camera of the Z Fold6. It appears that Samsung is planning to reuse the 50MP Samsung GN3 sensor (1/1.56″, 1.0µm) for the main camera. This is the same sensor that was used in the Z Fold5 and Z Fold4. To find a different main camera, you would have to go all the way back to the Z Fold3, which featured a 12MP Sony IMX555 sensor.

Don’t expect much change in Galaxy Z Fold6. At least we can be sure of the camera. It is the same as Fold4 and Fold5, that’s for sure.

If these rumors hold true, it might be somewhat disappointing for enthusiasts. However, according to other credible reports from THE ELEC, Samsung seems to be considering making the Z Fold6 slimmer in an effort to bridge the gap in thickness between its devices and those of its competitors. According to the report, Samsung may be reverse-engineering Huawei’s Mate X5 foldable to understand how the Chinese company managed to achieve a thinner profile and a larger internal battery.

For context, the Z Fold5 measures 6.1mm when unfolded and 13.4mm when folded, whereas the Mate X5 is 5.3mm when unfolded and 11.1mm when folded. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is notably even thinner at 5.3mm when unfolded and 10.9mm when folded, and the new OnePlus Open measures 5.8mm when unfolded and 11.7mm when folded.
