In mid-February, OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, unveiled Sora. This remarkable generative artificial intelligence (AI) product has the ability to transform text into video.

During the showcased demo, Sora demonstrated its capability to seamlessly convert text and images into dynamic video content. However, no official announcement regarding the release date of this AI product has been made yet.

In an interview, OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati, mentioned that Sora is slated for release by the end of 2024. Moreover, there’s a possibility that this AI tool might be launched to the public within the coming months.

Murati attributed the delay in Sora’s launch to the need for further testing, particularly focusing on security aspects. Furthermore, with the upcoming general elections in the United States in November 2024, ensuring the tool’s readiness to combat misinformation is paramount.

“We are committed to addressing misinformation and bias issues. We will not release anything that we’re not confident about its impact on global elections or other related matters,” Murati emphasized, as quoted from Tomsguide on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Additionally, OpenAI continues to refine Sora’s efficiency. Despite its capability, generating a 20-second video from Sora still takes several minutes. Murati also highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance the tool’s functionality, especially in rectifying unrealistic aspects such as finger movements in the videos generated by Sora.

Furthermore, Murati revealed that the pricing for Sora would be on par with DALL-E, another AI tool capable of transforming text into images. The aim is to make this tool accessible to a wide range of users, encouraging creativity and innovation.

“As we prepare for its public release, we hope to maintain pricing similar to DALL-E, making it accessible to a broader audience,” Murati stated.

“In essence, we’re exploring ways to leverage this technology as a tool for editing and creative expression,” Murati concluded.
