Qualcomm is reportedly in the works for a new System on Chip (SoC) within the Snapdragon 8 Series, bearing the name SM8635. Positioned as a potential successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it is speculated to serve as a scaled-down version of Qualcomm’s latest flagship SoC.
The leak comes from prominent tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo. The SM8635 is expected to bridge the gap between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Gen 3, though its official name remains uncertain. Speculations suggest it could be branded as either the Snapdragon 8s Gen 2 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Lite.
Rumored to utilize TSMC’s 4nm technology, the SM8635 is said to feature a Cortex-X4 core clocked at up to 2.9GHz, alongside an Adreno 735 GPU for robust graphics performance. Anticipated AnTuTu scores hover around 1.7 million points.
While an official launch date is yet to be announced, sources predict it could debut around September or October 2024. Interestingly, there are rumors circulating about another Qualcomm chip, codenamed SM7675, bearing striking similarities to the SM8635. It’s speculated that the SM7675 might belong to the Snapdragon 7 Gen series family.
The veracity of these rumors remains unconfirmed, necessitating further information to ascertain the positioning and official nomenclature of this new SoC.
