SEO what does it stand for? The term SEO, which the developers commonly use, stands for Search Engine Optimization. Now the question arises of what SEO is. It is the process of improving the content and structure of your site to increase its Search Engine Visibility. The better visibility your pages will have in search engine results, the more likely you will gain attention, attracting existing and prospective customers to your website.

Search Engine Optimization refers to the activities and guides we practice to make search engines place our content at the top of search results against a specific web query.

A Search Engine is an online service/software that helps people find out what they are looking for on the internet. The users put their queries as text or voice notes in the search box. Consequently, the Search Engine responds by placing the best pages as top results according to the phrase and intent of the user. Examples of commonly used Search Engine Software are Google, Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, Yandex, etc.

A search engine uses bots to crawl pages on the web. The bots visit from site to site and collect information about the web pages. Finally, they put them into an index. We may assume the search engine index is an extensive library where a librarian can pull up a source or book (i.e., a web page) to help you find what you’re looking for at the time.

In the next step, algorithms analyze pages in the index, considering hundreds of ranking factors to determine which pages should appear in the search results for a given keyword or phrase. In our library analogy, the librarians have read every book in the library. So, they can tell you exactly which one will have the answers to your queries.

We may consider success factors for Search Engine Optimization as the proxies for aspects of the user experience. In this way, the search bots estimate precisely how well a website or web page can give the searcher/user what they are searching for.

When we encounter “What is Search Engine Optimization for a website?” we must take three types of practices into account:

We shall discuss these practices of SEO in separate posts.
