WhatsApp, the world’s most popular instant messaging app, continues to rapidly expand its feature set. Last year, the company unveiled the ability to transfer data between Android and iOS devices, as well as allowing users to access the same account on multiple devices. Now, they are addressing another highly requested feature by enabling users to utilize multiple accounts on a single device.
Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, recently announced that WhatsApp will soon permit users to run two accounts on the same phone. Initially, this feature will be available for Android users. While it has been in the beta version of WhatsApp since August 2023, it will soon be rolled out to all users. This development is particularly valuable for individuals who maintain separate phone numbers for personal and professional purposes and need to operate WhatsApp on both numbers.
With this new feature, there may no longer be a need to rely on Samsung’s Dual Messenger functionality, which duplicates instant messaging and social media apps, enabling users to have two accounts running simultaneously within the same app. However, users can still choose to utilize Dual Messenger to run up to four WhatsApp accounts on the same device.
As of now, there is no information available regarding when this feature will become accessible to iPhone users. Meta has recently adopted a strategy of initially launching new features on Android before extending them to iOS.
For instance, WhatsApp introduced a dedicated app for Wear OS smartwatches, while it remains unavailable for Apple Watches. Additionally, there are plans to integrate Meta AI into WhatsApp, along with the introduction of Generative AI stickers.
