Before you rush to the comments section to let us know that you’ve been able to play music from YouTube Music on your Apple HomePod for some time now, we’re already aware. It’s true that casting audio from the YouTube Music app to a HomePod device has been possible for a while.

However, the YouTube Music product team recently announced a more seamless integration with HomePod, especially concerning voice commands. Now, Premium and Music Premium subscribers can effortlessly integrate YouTube Music as a playback service on their HomePod. This allows for voice commands like “Hey Siri, play music on YouTube Music,” without the need for your phone to be part of the playback process.

To set up this integration, you must be a Premium or Music Premium subscriber. Simply download the latest YouTube Music app, navigate to Settings > Connected Apps, and select “Connect with HomePod.”

If YouTube Music is your preferred streaming service, you can also designate it as the default service for your HomePod. To do this, open the Home app on your iOS device, go to Settings, tap on your username, choose “Default Service,” and select YouTube Music. After this setup, you can use concise commands like “Hey Siri, play music” without specifying “on YouTube Music.”
